In the aftermath of the battle, the party decide they need to retreat to recover before any reinforcements arrive. There was at person from the camp that Alicia saw run away from the battle.
Before leaving, the party decide to do a few things first. Sarroxtíoð goes to check out the tents, but finds that three of them are now burning so intently they can not be entered safely. The fourth is burning, but he is able to look inside. He sees two suits of scale mail armor inside and some crossbow bolts. He grabs one suit of armor while still able to get in and out of the burning pavilion.
Alicia and Eriana search the corpse of the priest they killed. Alicia grabs the holy symbol around his neck and finds a couple of vials on him along with some coins in a small belt pouch. Eriana takes his armor - a nice looking suit of lamellar breastplate. While they do this Rocinante looks for anything that might be enchanted, casting a read aura spell on the armor and on a nice pair of gloves the dead priest was wearing. The armor is not enchanted, but the gloves are so he takes those.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand runs back to the caravan they saw and looks inside. He sees a large pile of crossbow bolts, a scythe, crossbow, morning start, and a chest. He opens the chest and finds several items inside: 15 glow rods, two vials, a small sack with black gems inside, and three sacks containing what looks like powdered silver. He grabs everything except the weapons and bolts and leaves the heavy chest behind.
After leaving the caravan he gets help pulling up against the last burning tent so it will burn.
After looting the dead priest, Eriana untethers all the riding horses they saw while everyone else quickly looks over the other soldier bodies and loots them. They recover two more suits of scale mail armor, their flails and a number of coins.
All this took at least 20 minutes and during that time Alicia becomes increasingly insistent that they leave the camp before reinforcements arrive.
They do start to hear noise and shouts to the north which prompts the group to retreat.
Sarroxtíoð examines the strange ground of poured and shattered glass on red rock and thinks that a skilled tracker might be able to follow them, but it would be extremely challenging in the dark.
The group then retreat back to their hiding spot where the land cart is stashed and they find Failin patiently waiting in the shadows. He shows little sign of emotion when the party approach, but welcomes them back.
Once back at the camp, Alicia uses the healer's toolkit to treat wounds on the injured party members. Everyone has taken some injury from the battle, so it takes her an hour to treat everyone. She is successful on all members except herself.
Alicia then refocuses and makes repeated use of her Lay on Hands ability to apply magical curing to herself and Sarroxtíoð so everyone ends up back to nearly full health.
While she is patching people up, Rocinante examines the enchanted gloves and tries to identify them, but fails to do so. Saferous uses his alchemist's toolkit to examine the vials they recovered. The first one he identifies is a vial of unholy water. Alicia is disgusted by this and pours it out, destroying it.
Saferous identifies two more vials as unholy water, but this time he and Eriana prevent Alicia from destroying them. They each take a vial and argue that they are weapons they can use against their enemies. It does not make Alicia happy to keep them, but she relents. It is also worth noting, that Alicia destroys the silver unholy symbol the dead priest was wearing to The Blood of Vol.
There is one last potion that Saferous correctly identifies as a Healing Potion (Lesser).
At this point it is well past midnight and into the first hour or so of the new day. The group want to keep pressing while they have the advantage, to they head back into the town.
They find the camp burned out and the horses they freed are gone. Following the path where Alicia saw the retreating spellcaster, they walk up the road towards the two intact buildings. They travel in darkness using the darkvision sight of Eriana and Sarroxtíoð to lead them, with hands on shoulders to lead them. They can not travel at full speed this way as they walk over the strange glass covered ground.
While on their way to the buildings they listen for any signs of activity. They do not hear the sounds they heard previously, but do hear what they interpret as something moving on the glass ground - breaking glass and the sound of glass rubbing against glass.
When they reach the two intact buildings they find a large archway opening in the one to the east. It leads to what appears to be a large foyer with most of the floor clear of glass - a nice red marble floor. It leads straight across to another archway that leads to what appears to be a graveyard.
A little farther ahead on the building to the west is what appears to be an archway opening to that building. They move closer to look inside. This large building is constructed of red marble and has the engraved symbol of an anvil and gorgon carved into the keystone above the arched doorway. They recognize this as a symbol of House Cannith - something recently made aware to them by the professor in Sharn.
Looking inside, they see what appears to be a hastily constructed barricade of broken furniture across the 10-foot wide hall into the building. They hear sounds beyond it and can see humanoid shapes on the other side of the barrier.
