Session Log

After thoroughly searching the well appointed bedchamber the party go back to the main rotator room and decide on where to go next.
They now have a red key but there is only one socket they know of where it will probably work, and it is in the room that had the pit trap.
Before trying that out, they decide to try the orange key on one of the sockets they found that has not been tried yet. The second rotator room that leads to the kennel has an orange enamel socket they decide to try.
008-Failin remains in the main rotator room while the party open the passage to that second rotator room. Everyone moves into the room and Sarroxtíoð uses the key on the panel in the orange enamel slot. This time everyone moves so they have their backs on the wall just in case it ends up being trapped like the first room.
The room responds to the insertion of the key as before; the door they entered closes and the room rotates for about a minute before coming to a stop and a new door opens. This time a door to the south east appears.
It reveals a long hallway sloping down before turning west after a little over 100 feet. There are dimly lit by everlight fixtures evenly spaced along the hallway.
Once they reach the point where the hallway turns east, they see the passage continues for another 20 feet before ending in another steel door. This one has an orange enamel socket, the same color as the panel access to this hallway.
Sarroxtíoð uses the key on the door and it unlocks and opens slightly in the familiar pattern they have seen in this complex.
He immediately notices brightly, shifting rainbow light coming from the other side of the door as he pulls it fully open.
The walls and ceiling of this room as covered with metal panels polished to a high finish that provide a mirror-like surface. It is reflecting light from two dimly lit everlight scones set in the north and south walls in addition to the source of a strange shifting rainbow colors apparently coming from light on the north wall.
When Sarroxtíoð enters the room he immediately notices he is plunged into silence. He can not hear the party, nor his footfalls as he enters the room. Ferdinand follows immediately behind him, and the two try to talk with each other but can not utter any sound.
Ferdinand moves to check out the shifting lights to the north while Sarroxtíoð waves at the party in the hallway to see if anyone can hear him. Those in the hallway can hear each other, but hear nothing from the two inside the mirrored room.
As Ferdinand approaches the lights it suddenly emanates intense bright rainbow colors. The light bounces off the walls and ceiling and floods the hallway. Most of the party is Blinded, with only Eriana and Sarroxtíoð being merely Dazzled.
The light them moves from the wall - a strange ooze-like mass that exudes a pseudopod that hammers into Ferdinand and critically hits him. It does not knock him out, but his knee is badly damaged, making him clumsy and reducing his speed.
He reacts quickly, stabbing blindly ahead of him into the mass. His enchanted rapier sinks into the source of the light twice - feeling like a semi-solid mass his weapon sinks into easily. After he does so, he begins to gain a bit of his sight back and can see the creature before him, though the close proximity to the creature leaves him Dazzled. Though also dazzled, Sarroxtíoð can see the creature and it looks like the weapon hits it.
Eriana quickly runs into the room, sees the mass of light and tumbles past it to flank it with Ferdinand. He strikes at it, and stabs into it twice. It is hard to tell if his attacks are doing much at all to it. The thing looks like a giant ooze of scintillating lights. After his attacks the lights from it are so intense this close up that it leave him blinded.
Those in the hallway feel helpless being unable to see or hear anything in the room. They are not aware of combat in the room, so they all wait until their eyes adjust. In the meantime, Rocinante takes precautions and casts a mystic armor spell on himself.
The next person to react is Sarroxtíoð, and he unleashes a frostbite cantrip on the thing. It does seem to coat a blobby mass with ice, apparently having some effect. Afterwards, he enters a rage and prepares to run into melee.
For the next few rounds everyone ends up entering the chamber and fighting the creature. It almost hits Eriana and Sarroxtíoð with pseudopods of light and once more flares with bright light that blinds or dazzles everyone except Alicia. She manages to move in and treat Ferdinand's wounds during the fight.
They discover that fire also seems to hurt it after Rocinante hits it with an ignition cantrip. They also learn that the alchemical volatile vials from Saferous seem to harm it.
In the end Sarroxtíoð and Ferdinand end up in melee with it, finding that being this close makes it difficult to keep from being Dazzled or Blinded by the thing.
It is Ferdinand who delivers the killing blow on the creature, causing it to dissolve into a gooey mass on the floor. Unfortunately, moments before doing so he fumbled while blinded and managed to seriously injure himself with his rapier. If not for healing being provided by Alicia he would have knocked himself out of the fight.
After the combat Alicia tries to treat wounds on Ferdinand and critically fails, causing him damage. She quickly follows up with her magic lay-on-hands ability to reverse the damage.
While she does is tending to the wounds, Eriana motions to Rocinante to go back into the hallway to talk. He asks the mage to examine the shortsword and its runes they found to try and identify its magic. Since they need to wait for the first aid to be administered, Rocinante spends the next 10 minutes using a read aura cantrip on the sword as he tries to identify it.
He is convinced the runes are basic weapon potency runes, similar to the ones on the rapier Ferdinand is using (i.e. giving it a +1 enchantment to hit). It does not require any investment on the part of Eriana.
Once everyone is ready, Sarroxtíoð is ready to try out the orange key on the only other door in the room - another steel door on the east wall, opposite the one they entered. It also has an orange enamel socket.
The orange key unlocks it and the door opens to reveal a short 10 foot long hallway that ends in a curtain that is drawn across the passage. There is light streaming in from beyond the curtain of a normal sort, but it is bright light.
He pushes the curtain aside with his pick and a chamber that is 30 foot square with the familiar stone walls and ceiling and tiled floor. Unlike most other areas of this complex, there are two everlight fixtures on the north and south walls that have full brightness. There something hanging from a hook on the far wall.
Sarroxtíoð steps into the room and immediately stops. The party see him swivel his head sharply to the left as he pauses and appears to stare at something to his left in wonder. Eriana moves up and pulls him back behind the curtain just as he begins to shake his head.
He tells the party that he felt like he was transported to another room much larger than the one he saw that was so hot the air was shimmering with heat waves. There were two bonfires in the room and a large crucible with some sort of multi-headed sculpture in it. He saw what looked like a translucent chest next to the crucible in which he clearly saw a diamond-shaped large object about two feet across with writing on it that reminded him of the schema they found. There was other stuff inside, but that caught his attention.
When he realized his body was not hot from the obvious heat in the room it caused confusion between what he was seeing and feeling, at which point his vision shifted and he found himself back in the chamber he saw just as he was being pulled back behind the curtain.
Eriana then steps into the room and has the same sensation of teleporting to the same, much larger room with two bonfires, the crucible and translucent chest with the clearly visible schema. As with Sarroxtíoð, she sees the massive waves of heat in the room but her mind has trouble reconciling the fact that she is not physically feeling the heat and she find herself back in the 30 foot square chamber.
From the perspective of everyone else, she never went anywhere.
She steps back behind the curtain into the hallway and gathers her senses then goes back in. This time when she seems to be teleported to the large chamber she makes a dash for the translucent chest. She runs for about 10 feet and face-plants into the north wall of the 30 foot square chamber, falling backwards and taking a small amount of damage. She immediately sees that she is in the 30 foot square chamber they can see from the other side of the curtain.
The party come to the conclusion this is some sort of illusion. Sarroxtíoð enters again, waits until the vision passes then goes to the far wall where he spotted the hook on the wall. Hanging from it is another red metal rod with a ruby on the end - a second red key.
He takes it and the party decide to all see the vision then hang around in this room. Everyone has the exact same vision of the larger chamber with the bonfires and oppressive heat along with the crucible, the odd construct inside it, the translucent chest and the schema inside it. Rocinante also notices some vials inside the chest that he is convinced have runes on it that indicate wards against fire.
Afterwards, the party spend the next hour in this room. Alicia uses her healing powers to restore Ferdinand and Eriana to full health. Rocinante tries to examine several magic items while Saferous attempts to identify several of the magical vials they recovered as well as the strange small notebook.
Rocinante is convinced that the greatsword and longsword each have fundamental potency runes on them (likely +1 to hit each). He also identifies the magical glove they found previously and determines that it is capable of casting a telekinetic hand spell innately, and likely helps anyone with thieving skills.
He also examines the strange magic robes they found in the elvish wardrobe recently. They are made with a very fine weave that he thinks is some sort of spider webbing. He thinks it has special magic related to spiders - he imagines spells with webbing, climbing walls and the like but is not certain exactly how it works or how to activate it.
Saferous examines the vials they found hidden in that same wardrobe. One of the vials holds a silvery salve that he is certain will temporarily make any weapon it is smeared on a silvered weapon. Such weapons are very useful against specific creatures, and shifters all come to mind but it may be useful against other off-world creatures.
The other two vials contain an oily liquid that he thinks is the same. He believes these are oils of potency - a thick, viscous oil you apply to a weapon or suit of armor. If applied to a weapon it will enchant it temporarily as though it had a +1 striking rune on it (i.e. doubles the damage dice of the weapon). If applied to armor it will enchant it temporarily as though it had a +1 resilient rune upon it (i.e. adds +1 to the saving throws of the wearer). Each liquid likely lasts for around 1 minute when applied.
Examining the unusual book they found, Saferous thinks it contains details on building some unusual construct they must have been working on in this place. The information is complex and hard to follow, so he feels he'd need more time to study and understand it.
As the time passes, others search the room and find nothing else of interest.
Afterwards, the group return to the main rotator room and reunite with 008-Failin. They debate on what to try next, and are leaning towards checking out the ash-covered hallway with the burning object beyond the melted door. The blue enamel key from the main rotator room leads to it. They know there are at least three other keys they do not have - a yellow, brown and purple key. With any luck this passage may provide one or more of those.
