Session Log

The party ascended the giant stairs with an attempt not to be noticed. Massive double doors of stone and rusted iron stand partially open to the west. Two uniformed men stand guard to either side. Light spills from the between the open doors.
Each of the guards seem to be alert and they notice the party, calling out to whoever is in the room beyond the double doors and pushing them open.
Before they are able to move the party attack. Eriana moves first, running in and tripping the nearest guard at the door and stabbing them. She notices movement in the lit room beyond the doors. Hrovard quickly follows after her and gets to the second guard, swinging and hitting him with his axe.
There are two figures who appear from the room and shoot crossbow bolts at Eriana, hitting her as she stands over the tripped guard.
Muroni moves up and hits the standing guard with an arrow, injuring them.
Ferdinand rushes in to assist Hrovard, tumbling into a flanking position on that same guard before running him through with his rapier and causing him to collapse.
At about this point Eriana notices in the room a large ziggurat-like structure. The structure has three tiers, each about 10 feet high. On the top of the ziggurat is a globe of light and there is a robed person inside the light. They waive their hands and unleash a spell at Eriana, which she recognizes as a Force Barrage (aka magic missile). This leaves her badly wounded, but still standing.
The rest of the party are a little slower getting up the giant stairs to offer support.
Another soldier appears in the room and fires a crossbow bolt at Hrovard, hitting him.
Alicia, Harbek and Rebar each get up the giant stairs and move closer to the combat. After climbing the stairs, Rebar uses its magic to fire the dagger at one of the guards, but it misses and returns. Alicia is able to unleash a bolt and the soldier on the ground by Eriana, knocking them unconscious.
Next, Eriana drinks a healing potion (lesser) and recovers significantly from that. With the guard at her feet down, she rushes into the room and is intent on reaching the figure on top of the ziggurat. She ends up at the base of the ziggurat just past two other soldiers that have dropped their crossbow and raised their shields. One of the two guards wields a warhammer and wears breastplate armor.
For the next few seconds combat shifts into the large chamber with the ziggurat.
The robed figure on top of the ziggurat appears to grab something and cast another spell, causing their entire body to become blurry. They also consume something that seems to cause their body to alter somewhat, but its not clear how.
Hrovard rushes in to engage the nearest guard in melee (the one wearing chainmail). The heavily armored guard raises its shield and rushes to attack Eriana hitting her with a solid blow from his warhammer. Fortunately she was boosted by the healing potion and remains standing.
Ferdinand rushes in to help them out in melee while the others run in and reach the doorway.
Alicia is able to fire her crossbow and works to get into position to shield the party. Both Harbek and Rebar manage to get close enough to help out with spells, but miss with their attacks. Meanwhile, Muroni is able to move to the doors and shoots at the spellcaster on top of the ziggurat. She hits, but only lightly grazes the person.
One of the soldiers in the room is a little farther away and it uses its crossbow to shoot at the party, reloading and shooting twice.
In the next round, 002-Eriana Valsarith takes a powerful leap, grabs the edge of the next tier of the ziggurat and hauls herself up. As she moves away the heavily armored guard takes a swipe at her and misses. She moves quickly, ascending two tiers of the ziggurat and gets a bit closer to the spell caster at the top of the structure.
As she climbs the structure, Hrovard and Ferdinand engage in melee with the heavily armored soldier and a regular soldier. It isn't long before they take down the soldier in the chain shirt. The third soldier in the room drops his crossbow and runs into melee to help the other one.
Muroni gets into a good position and fires arrows at the spellcaster on top of the ziggurat. Alicia, Harbek and Rebar all support the fight against the soldiers.
It isn't long before all the soldiers are down. Eriana moves up to the top of the ziggurat and grabs the spellcaster, who tries to wriggle free and cast a spell but fails at both due to being grappled. When Eriana gets face-to-face with the caster she notices that its eyes have vertical slits, but its face is covered in wraps and most of the body is concealed behind the robe and clothing.
Eriana tries to stab at the spellcaster but notices that their body seems to be unnaturally tough. While she grappled the figure Muroni hit them with an arrow and it sounded like the arrow hit something very hard - like hard wood or stone. The person was clearly injured, but not very badly.
When Eriana starts to loose her grip on the spellcaster she tries to keep the grapple but fails. The opponent then casts another spell and vanishes!
Straining to use her hearing to locate the spellcaster, Eriana thinks they moved away and climbed down to the next lower tier on the ziggurat. She lobs a sulfur bomb (moderate) at it, likely splashing the target. Her hope is that the smell will help to locate the invisible spellcaster.
Everyone else in the party have finished off the last guard and also notice the spellcaster has turned invisible. Alicia suggests they fall back, but up on top of the ziggurat Eriana is intent on hunting down the spellcaster. She notices a doorway on the north wall of the room without a door. She intends to get their to block off the exit, and calls out to the others. Ferdinand races in that direction and gets close to that exit. Both Muroni and Hrovard run in that direction to help out and scan the room trying to sense where the invisible caster has gone.
Meanwhile, it become clear the party isn't going to fall back so Alicia, Harbek and Rebar close the double doors they entered into the room and guard them to try and cut off that avenue to the spellcaster.
